WEEK 2 – 4:  MEANING AND DEFINITION OF NATIONAL IDENTITY

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES

  1. Teacher leads pupils to explain the meaning of national identity.
  2. She defines national identity as accepting and belonging to a nation by identifying with its goals and aspiration.
  3. She further explain that national identity id the sense of belonging one has to a state or a nation, or the sense of solidarity one feels with a particular group without regards to one’s actual citizenship status.
  4. She further throw more light on national identity to reinforce the understanding of  the national identity.

PUPILS’ ACTIVITIES

  1. Pupils listen to teacher’s explanation
  2. They participate in class discussion.
  3. Respond to teacher’s questions

WEEK 5- 6:  ELEMENT OF NATIONAL IDENTITY.

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES

  1. Teacher guides pupils to explain the meaning of elements of national identity.
  2. Teacher defines element of national identity as the components or constituent parts into which the nation may be resolved by analysis.
  3. She asks pupils to mention some elements of national identity they know.
  4. She list the element of national identity as follows:
  5. National anthem
  6. Citizenship of a nation
  7. Payment of taxes
  8. Working for the success of the nation
  9. Respecting national symbol
  • Teacher explains in details the elements listed above, one after the other.\
  • She display pictures and posters of
  • National flag
  • Coat of arms
  • People in a tax office
  • She asks pupils to sing the national Anthem

WEEK 8 – 11: REASONS FOR PATRIOTISM

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES

  1. Teacher guides pupils to explain “Patriotism.”
  2. She uses questioning methods to open discussion on patriotism.
  3. She defines patriotism as: an emotional attachment to a nation which an individual recognizes as their homeland.
  4. She further explains the “emotional attachment” as national feeling or national pride.
  5. She further ask people to tell the class their emotional attachment either in parents, teacher or school and relates them to the nation.
  6. She guides pupils to mention reasons for patriotism.
  7. She highlights the following reasons for patriotism
  8. It promote unity
  9. It promotes development
  10. It encourages full utilization of resources to optimum level.
  11. It helps the nation to benefit from the common wealth of knowledge and skills.
  12.  Teacher organizes a class discussion on the above mentioned reasons.
