WEEK 1: REVISION OF 2ND TERM’S WORK

WEEK 2 – 4: MEANING AND CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING THINGS

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

  1. Teacher leads pupils to describe a plant. She defines plants as: living things that usually have stems, laves and roots and grow in the earth.
  2. She guides class on the meaning of living things.

She defines living things as: Any organisms or a living form that possesses or shows the characteristics of life or being alive.

  • She leads pupils to mention the characteristics of living things e.g. growth, reproduction, respiration, etc.
  • she displays pictures and posters of various plants

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

  1. Pupils describe a plant.
  2. They listen to teacher’s explanation
  3. They define plants and living things
  4. They mention the characteristics of living thing
  5. They display posters o pictures drawing of plants.

WEEK 5- 6:  PLANTS AS LIVING THINGS

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

  1. Teacher takes pupils on a nature walk to observe plants.
  2. She explains the characteristics of plant e.g. growth, reproduction, respiration, movement, nutrition, etc.
  3. She display pictures/drawing of a plant exhibiting one of the characteristics.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

  1. Pupils observe plants in their  locality
  2. They identify plants as living things.
  3. They observe pictures/ drawing or posters on display.

TEACHING/LEARNING RESOURCES/AIDS:

  1. Specimen of plants in the locality
  2. Pictures, drawings or posters

WEEK 7:  Mid – term’s Revision and Test

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES: Mid – term’s Revision and Test

PUPILS ACTIVITIES: Mid – term’s Revision and Test

WEEK 8 -9:  Meaning and characteristics of Animals.

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

  1. Teacher  initiates class discussion on the meaning of animals

She defines animal as: Any living thing that can move independently and has senses for recognizing and reacting to the environment around it.

  • She throws more light on the characteristics of animal e.g. reproduction, nutrition, irritability, movement, growth, excretion, respiration.
  • Teacher displays pictures and posters of various animals demonstrating their characteristics.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

  1. Pupils listen to teacher’s explanation
  2. They mention the characteristics of animals
  3. They observe  and comment on pictures and posters displayed

TEACHING/LEARNING RESOURCES/AIDS:

  1. Textbook
  2. Posters
  3. Pictures of animal.

WEEK 10 – 11: ANIMAL AS A LIVING THINGS

TEACHERS’S ACTIVITIES:

  1. Teacher takes pupils on a nature walk to observe animals
  2. She explains the characteristics which they observe animals display on the spot e.g. nutrition (feeding), excretion, passing solid or liquid waste matter from the body movement (moving the body or part of the body) etc.
  3. Teacher guides pupils to identify animals as living things. She explains growth as the movement, feeding, etc. as they affect animals.
  4. Teacher initiates class discussion on comparison of plants and animal as living things.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

  1. Pupils listen to teacher’s explanation.
  2. They observe animals in the locality.
  3. They identify animals as living things.
  4. They observe  and comment on pictures/posters displayed
  5. They participate in class discussion.
