First Term Nursery one News and Conversation Curriculum
SUBJECT: NEWS AND CONVERSATION
Week 1 & 2
TOPIC: I know who I am
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to tell in a few
sentences who she/he is e.g My name is Jenrade. I am 3years old. I love apples.
Lesson: 2 Lessons
Materials: Audio visuals
Activities: Teacher should guide the pupils to tell the class about themselves In
turns.
Evaluation: -What is your name? How old are you? Which is your best fruit?
N:B This helps to develop the child,s ability to converse with others.
Week 3 & 4
Topic : Conversation on water
Objectives: At the end of the lesson ,pupils should be able to mention two or more important things about water.
Lesson: 2 Lessons
Materials: Tap or well water in the school
Activities: Teacher should guide the pupils to say what they know about water by
telling the class.
Evaluation: what does your mummy use water for? Should water be wasted ?
What do you use water for? How do we prevent wasting of water?
Week 5 & 6
Topic: Keeping the environment clean
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to say how not to litter
the floor in and around the class or at home.
Lesson: 2 Lessons
Materials: waste baskets
Activities: Teacher should demonstrate to the pupils how to trash waste items
like biscuit and sweet wraps i.e by putting them in the waste bin.
Evaluation: Where do we p[ut our litters or wastes?
Week 7 & 8
Topic: I know my nation
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to tell about his or her
nation in two or three sentences.
Lesson: 2 Lessons
Materials: Chart of the Nigerian map
Activities: Teacher tells the pupils about the nation Nigeria, The salient points of
the conversation should include the name of the country, capital and the
president.
Evaluation: What is the name of your country? Who is the president of your
country?
Week 9 & 10
Topic: Being a good citizen of a nation
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to mention two
qualities of a good citizen.
Lesson: 2 Lessons
Materials: the flag and the coat of arm
Activities: teacher should teach pupils to respect national symbols such as the
flag. They should also be taught that good citizens do not fight, steal nor lie.
Evaluation: A good respects the national flag . Yes /No . A good citizen does not
fight. Yes/NO
Week11 & 12
Topic: Revision, examination, closing.
