.UNITS AND SYMBOLS OF TEMPERATURE SCALE
UNIT OF TEMPERATURE
The unit of measuring temperature on the Celsius scale C is degree Celsius.
The unit of measuring temperature on Fahrenheit scale is degree Fahrenheit, written as F.
The unit of measuring temperature on Kelvin scale is written as K.
SYMBOLS OF TEMPERATURE SCALES
Thermometer have two point (lowest fixed point and highest fixed point). We have different temperature scale. The most common of them are:
- Celcius Scale: it is from 0°C to 100°C.
- Fahrenheight Scale: it is from 32°F to 212°F.
- Kelvin scale: it is from 273K to 373K.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DEGREE CELSIUS AND DEGREE FAHRENHEIT
- Difference in boiling/freezing point and degree size
- Temperature can be converted easily using the appropriate formula.
- Fahrenheit to Celsius Conversion Formula C = 5/9 (°F-32)
- Celsius to Fahrenheit Conversion Formula F= 9/5 (°K-273)+32
- Kelvin to Fahrenheit Conversion Formula F= 9/5 (°K-273)+32
- Fahrenheit to Kelvin Conversion Formula K= 5/9 (°F-32)+273
- Celsius to Kelvin Conversion Formula K= °C+273
SOME USES OF THERMOMETER
- To measure temperature of electronic sensor
- Check the temperature of humans
- To check the temperature of animals
- To measure the temperature of oven
- To measure the temperature of pool
- To measure the temperature of an incubator for a premature infant
- To measure the temperature of sugar when making candy
- To measure the temperature of outdoor temperature
TAKING MEASUREMENT WITH CLINICAL THERMOMETER
The following are ways to use clinical thermometer for measurement
- Shake the thermometer to ensure all the mercury is at the bottom to prevent inaccurate reading.
- Place the thermometer under your tongue or armpit for it to stabilize.
- Place the forearm across the chest and ensure the upper arm is resting against the patient’s side.
- Leave the thermometer in place for 5 minutes, to ensure accurate reading.
- Remove the thermometer, read, and immediately record the temperature on the record chart or note.
PRESENTATION
- The Teacher revises the previous lesson.
- The Teacher introduces the topic.
- The Teacher explains the lessons.
LESSON EVALUATION
- Identify and write the units and symbols of temperature.
- Mention three uses of Thermometer
- Use the thermometer to measure your body temperature.
CONCLUSION: the teacher summarize the lesson.
