                              CONTENT OF THE LESSON

             MEANING OF A NATION

A  Nation is an organized body of people under a single government. It is the people who live in a country. Nigeria have 36 states with Abuja as the federal capital territory. We shave 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria.

Nigeria is divided into six political zones. These are

  1.  North West: it is made of of seven states. The stastes are Kano, kebi, sokoto, zamfara, kaduna, katsina, jigawa.
  2. North East: it is made up of six (6) states. These are Bauchi, Bornu, Gombe, yobe, Adamawa, Taraba.
  3. South – south: it is made up of six (6) states. These are Akwa ibom, rivers, cross river, Delta, Bayelsa, Edo.
  4. South – west: it is made up of six (6) states. These are Lagos, oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo.
  5. North central: it is made up of six (6) states. These are NAsarawa, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau.
  6. South – East: it is made up of five (5) states. These are Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, and Imo.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A NATION

The following are characteristics of a nation

  1. Practices of common custom and tradition.
  2. A common language
  3. A common currency
  4. Common boundary or territory

REASONS FOR BUILDING OUR NATION

The Reason for building a nation are as follows:

  1. For peaceful co-existence
  2. To benefit from one another
  3. Common use of resources
  4. United against external  aggression

PRESENTATION

  • The Teacher revises the previous term lessons (CIVIC VALUES)
  • Teacher leads the pupils to understand NATIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS.
  • She/he explains the meaning of a nation.
  • He/she explains the characteristics of a nation.
  • Teacher leads pupils to mention the reasons for building a nation.
