WEEK 1 – 6:  MEANING AND DEFINITION OF SECURITY AGENCY

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher leads pupils to explain the meaning of security agencies.
2. She defines security agencies as a government organization which conducts intelligence activities for the internal security of a nation.
3. She explains to pupils that the primary role of security agencies is to maintain law and order and prevent crime. She states roles of security agencies.
4. She guides pupils to mention names of security agencies they know.
5. She lists the security agencies as follows:

NPF – NIGERIA POLICE FORCE

FRSC – FEDERAL ROAD SAFETY COMMISSION

NDLEA – NATIONAL DRUG LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY

SSS – STATE SECURITY SERVICE

ICPC – INDEPENDENT CORRUPT PRACTICES COMMISSION

NSCDC – NIGERIA SECURITY AND CIVIL DEFENCE COMMISSION

NAFDAC – NATIONAL AGENCY FOR FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION CONTROL.

NPS – NIGERIA PRISON SERVICE

NA/MILITARY – NIGERIA ARMY

• She displays pictures of each of the security agencies uniforms for easy identification.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Pupils  listen to teachers explanation
2. They mention names of security agencies
3. They observe and comment on pictures displayed

WEEK 8 – 11:  PRIMARY DUTIES OF SECURITY AGENCIES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher revisits the lesson on the list s of security agencies
2. Teacher guides pupils to mention names of security agencies.
3. She organizes a class discussion on the primary duties of security agencies
4. She briefly narrates short histories and states the primary duties of security agencies according to their names she mentions their titles or their heads.
5. Nigeria police force (npf) was established in 1930.  Their primary duty is to maintain law and order within the country. The agency is headed by an inspector General.
6. Federal road safety commission (FRSC) was establish in 1988. Their primary role is to prevent and minimize accidents on the highways. The agency is headed by a Corps Marshal.

•  Teacher leads pupils to identify whom to approach in the face of danger e.g.
• Report crime to police
• Report Drug trafficking/ drug abuse to NDLEA
• Report corruption and bribery to ICPC, etc.
• Teacher can organizes excursion visits to security agencies within their environment e.g. Police Station.
• Teacher display pictures or posters of security agents performing their duties.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Pupils participate in the revision exercise
2. Pupils  listen to teacher’s explanation
3. They participate in class discussion
4. They participate in the excursion visit to any security agent office.
5. They observe and comment on pictures displayed
