SUBJECT: ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASS: BASIC I
COMPREHENSION
Read the passage carefully then answer the questions that follows
OUR CULTURE AWAY OF LIFE
Do you sometimes ask yourself why we do not wear the school uniform on our culture day? On this special day we wear different beautiful clothes to show which culture belongs to us. Our way of greeting is also part of our culture. Apart from our style of dressing, there are also other ways by which we can show our culture.
Hausa men greet one another by shaking their hands as the squat they touch their chest with the hand after this. You can easily know an Igbo man when he is greeting another Igbo man. They both shake hands and embrace each other. It is the custom among the Igbos for children to bow slightly as a mark of respect when they greet older fellows.
Yoruba boys prostrate while the girls kneel with their hands by the side to greet older people.
Other people greet according to their customs. The way we entertain our guests who come to visit us, the way we do our hair, the way we talk to people and the way we behave. She show people we are well trained children when we learn to do these things.
