             LESSON CONTENT

EROSION

Erosion is the washing away and moving of the top soil layer of the earth through water and wind.

TYPES OF EROSION

  1. Rill Erosion
  2. Splash Erosion
  3. Sheet Erosion
  4. Gully Erosion

CAUSES OF EROSION

The two main causes of Erosion are:

  1. Water from rain or ice glacier
  2. Wind

MAN –MADE CAUSES OF EROSION

  1. Poor waste disposal methods.
  2. Bush burning
  3. Deforestation
  4. Poor agricultural practices by human.
  5. Poor drainage system.
  6. Poor road construction
  7. Topography
  8. Overgrazing caused by animals
  9. Building of market places
  10. Localization of industries

EFFECTS OF EROSION

Some effect or danger of erosion are:

  1. Loss of lives and properties.
  2. Difficulty in road transport
  3. Poor crop harvest
  4. Whirl wind Causes blindness
  5. Loss of soil nutrients and fertility
  6. Degration of our environment.
  7. Waste of resources
  8. Affect the natural structure of the physical landscape.

CONTROL OF EROSION

The following are ways we can control erosion

  1. Avoid burning of bush
  2. Planting of trees
  3. Active land use policy
  4. Planting of cover crops
  5. Waste disposal control
  6. Recycling
  7.  Enlightenment of the public about the dangers of erosion.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURE

  • The Teacher revises the previous lesson (Pollution).
  • The Teacher introduces the lesson through question and answer (EROSION).
  • The Teacher explains the lessons.
  • The Teacher write the note on the board.

LEARNERS ACTIVITIES

Learners participate in the class discussion
