JSS1: Second Term’s Scheme of Work

Week 1: APPROXIMATION 

i. Obtaining approximate values for calculation involving four basic arithmetic processes (operations).

ii. Rounding off of numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000.

iii. Quantitative reasoning involving approximation.

Week 2: OPEN SENTENCES

i. Use of letters to represent numbers.

ii. Distinguishing between open and closed sentences.

iii. Supplying the missing numbers in open sentences from a set of given permissible substitutes.

Week 3: SIMPLIFYING ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION 

i. Identifying the coefficient of symbols or letters.

ii. Distinguishing algebraic expressions from non-algebraic expressions.

Week 4: SIMPLIFYING ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION 2

i. Basic operation of addition, substraction, multiplication and division of algebraic symbols and terms.

ii. Collection of like terms.

Week 5: WORD PROBLEMS

i. Formation of word problems (simple cases).

ii. Word problems involving uses of symbols.

iii. Quantitative reasoning involving algebraic expressions.

Week 6: SIMPLE EQUATIONS IN ONE VARIABLE

i. Identifying simple equations in one variable.

ii. Examples of three types of equality – absolute, referential and conditional equality.

Week 7: DIRECTED NUMBERS

i. Addition and substraction of numbers using number line.

ii. Use of number line.

Week 8: BASIC PROPERTIES OF SOME COMMON THREE DIMENSIONAL FIGURES

i. Basic properties of cubes, cuboids, pyramids, cylinders, e.g., faces, vertices and edges.

Week 1: EXPANSION OF ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION

Week 2: FACTORIZATION OF ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION

i. Factorisation of the form ax + ay = a (x + y)

ii. Factorisation of the form abc + abd = ab (c + d)

Week 3: ALGEBRAIC FRACTION

i. Algebraic fraction with monomial denominators (addition, substraction, multiplication and division)

Week 9: GRAPHS

i. Revision of plotting of points on the Cartesian plane

ii. Solutions of linear equations in two variables using graphs

Week 10: ANGLES OF ELEVATION AND DEPRESSION

i. Identifying angles of elevation and depression

iii. Applying the use of compound interest in daily life activities

Week 3: VIEWS, PLANS AND SKETCHES

Drawing views and plans of common solids:

i. Cube and cuboids

ii. Cone

iii. Cylinder

iv. Sphere 

v. Prism

Week 4: PROBABILITY

i. Define probability 

ii. Use probability to estimate the outcomes of real-life problems involving chance 

iii. Express probability as a fraction 

iv. Determine the probability of events such as throwing a die, picking a ball from a bag etc.

Week 5: SIMILAR SHAPES

a. Identify similar figures:

i. Triangles

ii. Rectangles

iv. Cubes

b. Identifying the presence of similar shapes in the environment

Week 6: ENLARGEMENT AND SCALE FACTOR

i. Meaning of enlargement and scale factor

Week 7: TRIGONOMETRY
