MEANING OF NATURAL AND UNNATURAL DISASTERS

Natural disaster is great loss and misfortune that happens unexpectedly. Natural disasters are not caused by man.

Examples are earthquake, flood.

Unnatural disasters are caused by man and animal carelessness. E.g. road accident, plane crash

CAUSES OF NATURAL DISASTER

  1. Heavy rains
  2. Overflowing rivers
  3. Climate change and global warming.

CAUSES OF UNNATURAL DISASTER (MAN)

  1. Plane crash
  2. Sinking ship
  3. Motor accident
  4. Blocked drainage
  5. Through epidemics

EFFECT OF NATURAL DISASTERS ON LIVES AND PROPERTY

  1. Severe injuries
  2. Loss of life
  3. Loss of property
  4. loss of homes
  5. loss of jobs
  6. destruction of farmland
  7. loss of communication and transport
  8. economic loss

HOW TO CONTROL UNNATURAL DISASTERS

  1. ensure motor vehicles are in good condition
  2. road maintenance
  3. proper discharge channel to control flood
  4. ensure aircraft are in good condition

PRESENTATION

Learners are asked:

  • What is a natural disaster?
  • List three forms of disaster
  • Identify three causes of disasters
