WEEK 1 and 2
TOPIC/SKILL: Children’s rhymes
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE: Pupils should be able to:
1.recite some traditional rhymes;
2.identify the lyrics of a given rhyme.
CONTENT: Children’s rhymes
TEACHER ACTIVITIES:
1.Explain what rhymes are:
2.Find out from the pupils the rhymes they are familiar with
3.Plays recorded rhyme recitation
4.Displays written rhymes on cardboard sheets
5.Encourages individual and group recitation of rhymes.
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
1.Recite the traditional rhymes they already known
2.Listen to the recorded traditional rhymes;
3.Identify rhymes in their language
4.Copy the written rhymes in their notebook
5.Practice reciting the rhymes
6.Recite rhymes in groups
TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCE:
Tape recorded and player. C.D players, phones for recording, cardboard, papers, notebooks, pencils and cleaners
EVALUATION GUIDE: Pupils to:
- recite one children’s rhymes
- identify the lyrics of a given rhyme
WEEK 3
TOPIC/SKILL: Introduction to story telling
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE:
Pupils should be able to: tell story
CONTENT: Introduction to the art of story telling
TEACHER ACTIVITIES:
Explain what story telling is
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
Listen to teacher explanation
TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCE: Stories in a book
EVALUATION GUIDE: Pupils to: tell the stories they created
WEEK 4
TOPIC/SKILL: Introduction to story telling
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE: Pupils should be able to:
identify a story line in a story or folktale .
CONTENT: Making up a story line with this theme: -tolerance
- TEACHER ACTIVITIES: Develops a story line idea
- Makes up short story around the idea.
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
Follow story line idea in teacher’s story.
TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCE:
Stories in a book. Illustrations of characters in the story television.
EVALUATION GUIDE:
Pupils to tell the stories they created individually using any of the outlined themes.
WEEK 5 and 6
TOPIC/SKILL: Introduction to story telling
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE: Pupils should able to:
1.identify a story line in a story or folktale.
2.create or make up a short story.
CONTENT:
Making up a story line with any or two of the following themes. Service to the nation truthfulness.
TEACHER ACTIVITIES:
1.Makes up short story around the idea.
2.Leads pupils to tell stories based on their environment, events or things they watch
on television.
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
1.Listen to teacher’s explanation
2.make up story led by the teacher
TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCE:
Stories in a book. Illustration of characters in the story television, video, tapes and C.Ds
EVALUATION GUIDE:
Pupils to: tell the stories they created individually using any one of the outlined themes.
WEEK 7 and 8
TOPIC/SKILL: Introduction to story telling
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE:
Pupils should be able to:
1.identify a story line in a story or folktale
2.create or make up a short story
CONTENT:
Making up a story line with any of the following themes. Respect obedience etc.
TEACHER ACTIVITIES:
1.Develops a story line idea
2.Makes up short story around the idea
3.Leads pupils to tell stories based on their environment events or things they watch on television
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
1.Listen to teacher’s explanation
2.Follow story line idea in teacher story
3.Make up story led by the teacher
TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCE:
Stories in a book. Illustrations of characters in the story, television, video tapes and C.Ds
EVALUATION GUIDE:
WEEK 9 and 10
TOPIC/SKILL: Role Play
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE:
Pupils should be able to:
- identify characters in a story or folktale
describe one character in the teacher’s story or in a story told in a book
CONTENT:
- Introduction to role play.
- Encourages pupils to try out roles of characters in different stories based on their observation of real life characters or animals they watched on television
TEACHER ACTIVITIES:
- Explains what role play is
Demonstrates to pupils a character in a particular story
PUPILS ACTIVITIES:
- Listen attentively to teacher’s explanation
- Observe teacher’s demonstration
TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCE:
Illustrations of characters in a story using charts, pictures etc
EVALUATION GUIDE:
Pupils to:
- identify characters in a story
play out the role of characters in a story
WEEK 11: REVISION
