MEANING OF NATIONAL IDENTITY

National identity is accepting and belonging to a nation by identifying with its goals and aspiration.

National identity is also, the sense of belonging one has to a state or a nation, or the sense of solidarity one feels with a particular group without regards to one’s actual citizenship status.

MEANING OF ELEMENTS OF NATIONAL IDENTITY

Elements of national identity are the components or constituent parts into which the nation may be resolved by analysis.

ELEMENTS OF NATIONAL IDENTITY

The elements of national identity are as follows:

National anthem
Citizenship of a nation
Payment of taxes
Working for the success of the nation
Respecting national symbol

DESCRIPTION OF THE NATIONAL SYMBOLS

THE NIGERIA NATIONAL ANTHEM

The national anthem is a song of special significance to the country. It is usually sung on event like national sports festival, Independence Day, national convention, special occasions.

NIGERIA COAT OF ARMS:

the black shield: represent the good and fertile soil
White wavy band that formed letter Y represent the country’s main inland water ways. They are River Niger and Benue.
Two horses: represent dignity and pride.
Yellow flowers: are the type of flowers that is found in every part of the country.
The Eagle: represent strength and pride of Nigeria
Green represents rich agricultural potential of Nigeria, white stands for peace.
And the motto reads: “Unity and faith, peace and progress”.

PRESENTATION

The Teacher revises the previous term lessons (NATIONAL SYMBOLS).
Teacher leads the pupils to understand the topic: NATIONAL IDENTITY
She/he explain the meaning of national identity.
Teacher leads pupils to mention the importance of Nigerian national anthem and pledge.
