THE ROLE OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT TO THE PEOPLE

The state government performs the following functions.

1. Agriculture: help farmer to increase the amount of food production by providing them with fertilizers.
2. Education: provides finance for education in secondary school, polytechnics, college and universities belonging to the state.
3. Health: provides hospitals, clinics and maternity homes.
4. Works and utilities: provides good road, water, build and maintained state road.
5. Trade and industries: they provides the need for its citizens, provides jobs for people who are unemployed.
6. Judiciary: they maintain laws and order through the ministry of Justice.
7. Protection of lives and properties.

PROBLEMS FACING THE STATE GOVERNMENT

1.  Inadequate funds from the federal government to carry out their responsibilities.
2. some local government refuse to manage it area
3. When there is too much control from the state government to the local government.
4. Failure of the state government to give what is due to the local government authority
5. Religion differences
6. Ethnic differences
7. Political party differences
8. Corruption
9. Problems of electricity supply and bad road

HOW TO PROMOTE COOPERATION BETWEEN COOPERATION BETWEEN THE STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT

1. There should be peace and order in the state.
2. Ensure people in the local Government pay their taxes, levies etc.
3. Political party differences should be put aside.
4. state government should give what is due to the local government authority
5. State Government should reduce its excessive control over the local government authorities.
6. The local government should be allowed to do their duties.
7. Proper management of area should be ensure by the chairman of the local Government.
8. Funds allocated to the local government and state Government should be used wisely and accounted for.
9. Religion differences should be put aside.

BENEFITS OF COOPERATIONBETWEEN LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT

Cooperation brings about:

1. Progress and development in the state
2. Bring harmony within the state and the citizen of the state.
3. Goals and objectives of the state and local government will be met.

DUTIES OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Some of the duties of the local government are:

1. They grade and tar roads in their areas.
2. They encourage farmers to produce more food for the people.
3. They provide good primary education for children.
4. They provide other social amenities like markets, water, etc.
5. Provide good health care centres of the people.
6. They encourage farmers to produce more food for the people.
7. Provides employment opportunities for the citizens.
8. Provision of public library.
9. Organizing adult education programme.
10. Provision of recreation center, Halls, motor parks, cemeteries.
11. Provision of marriage registry.
12. Birth, death and marriages records keeping of the local government.
13. Provision of scholarship and awards to spectacular students.
14. Payment of staff salaries and allowances.

THE IMPORTANCE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO THE PEOPLE

Some of the importance of the local government are:

1. To developed every part of the local government area.
2. It brings government closer to the people.
3. To engage people in the local community to be involved in the running of the government.
4. To protect the culture of the people.
5. To care for the needs of the people in the local government area like provision of health Centre, good education
6. Collects taxes and rates for the development and provision of amenities.
7. Maintain law and order in the local government.
