WEEK 1: REVISION OF 1^ST TERM’S WORK

WEEK 2 – 3: QUALITY OF WATER

TEACHERS’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher Displays samples of water of different qualities (clean, dirty, and muddy).
2. She uses simple activities to guide pupils to identify water that is unfit for drinking.
3. Teacher explains that quality of water  is divided into  two
4. Good water
5. Bad water
6. She lists the qualities of good water and bad water.

Good quality water is colourless, odourless and tasteless while bad quality of water is has colour, odour and taste.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES

1. Pupils observe and describe the displayed water samples.
2. They identify water that is fit and unfit for drinking
3. They participate in the discussion on the quality of water.
4. They ask and answer questions

WEEK 4- 5:  DANGERS OF DRINKING BAD OR CONTAMINATED WATER.

TEACHERS’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher leads pupils on the meaning of bad/ contaminated water.

Hazardous materials that pollute the water.

• She discusses the importance or uses of good quality water for drinking.
• She lists the way water can be contaminated e.g.
• Pouring oil on water (oil spillage)
• Dumping refuse on water, etc.

• She uses simple activities to guide pupils to identify water that is unfit for drinking i.e. check colour, check oduor, and check taste.
• Teacher shows samples of contaminated water
• She initiate class discussion on danger of drinking bad/contaminated water. E.g.

Cholera, stomach ache, fever, etc.

•  She displays posters of victims of contaminated water.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Listen to teacher’s explanation
2. Observe and describe samples of contaminated water.
3. They collect and observe substances
4. That contaminate water e.g. oil, sand, urine, refuse, etc.

WEEK 6:  COMMON USES OF WATER

TEACHERS’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher leads pupil’s uses questioning method to explain common uses of water.
2. Teacher initiates and guides a class discussion on the common uses of water.
3. Teacher explains different purpose of using water. E.g. domestic purpose, agricultural purpose, industrial purpose, etc.
4. She displays pictures and posters of the different uses of water discussed above.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Pupils listen to teacher’s explanation
2. They respond to teacher ‘s question
3. They mention common uses of water.
4. They participate in class discussion
5. They observe and comment on the posters displayed

WEEK 8 -9:  WATER PURIFICATION

TEACHERS’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher leads pupils on the meaning and definition of water purification.

She defines water purification as: the removal of contaminants from raw water to produce drinking water that is pure enough for human consumption for industrial use.

• Teacher explains reasons for purifying water.
• Water may be ridden with parasite
• Water may contain bacteria
• Teacher highlights methods of purifying water
• Boiling
• Filtering
• Adding alum
• She  demonstrates one of the methods of water purification
• She displays pictures of water purification

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Pupils listen to teacher’s explanation
2. They observe pictures and posters displayed
3. They asked questions

WEEK 10 – 11: PACKAGED WATER

TEACHERS’S ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher briefly looks back at water  purification
2. She uses questioning method to explain meaning of packaged water i.e. water that is put in a container or wrapped for consumption.
3. She leads class  to mention reason for packaging water
4. Purpose of hygiene
5. Easy transportation
6. Convenience and handling, etc.
7. She guides pupils to mention types of packaged water e.g. sachet water, bottled water, etc.
8. Teacher displays samples of packages water and a glass of water in class.
9. She explains features of safe packaged water. E.g.
10. Water must be clear, tasteless and odourless.
11. Must be NAFDAC certified.
12. Name and address of manufacturer, must be printed on the container.

PUPILS ACTIVITIES:

1. Pupils participate in the revision exercise
2. They listen to teacher’s explanation.
3. They listen to teacher’s explanation
