MEANING OF PRESERVATION OF FARM PRODUCE

We need to keep food so that they don’t get spoilt, loss their taste and freshness.

Food preservation is the way of keeping foods until they are needed.

 IMPORTANCE OF FARM PRODUCE PRESERVATION

The following are some of the reasons we preserve our food.

  1. Not to lose it freshness.
  2. To prevent contamination and infection.
  3. To prevent food from smelling.
  4. To keep insect and other pest away from the food.
  5. Keeps farm produce in good condition for planting in the next season.
  6. To keep food for a long period of time.
  7. To make food available when needed.
  8. To preserve the quality of food.
  9. To reduce food spoilage

METHODS OF FARM PRODUCE PRESERVATION

Some of the methods of preserving food are:

  1. Smoking; fish,meat
  2. Sun drying; peeled cassava, peeled yam, maize, beans,yam, pepper,potatoes, fresh fish.
  3. Salting; meat, fish.
  4. Frying;meat, fish, plantain, yam,potato
  5. Refrigeration;eggs, fruits, vegetable, meat, fish, soup.
  6. Bottling; fruit juice, tomatoes, milk
  7. Bagging;corn, rice, beans, garri.
  8. Canning; fruits, pepper,sardine, corned beef, soup.
